In 2010, it started with a program supported by funds from the World Bank called HPEQ, launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture to improve the quality of Higher Health Education in Indonesia. This program, with the background of the increasing number of study programs in the Health sector and the still low quality of Health services, has 3 main activity components, namely (1) improving the quality of education through the establishment of a quality assurance forum/Accreditation Institute, (2) improving the quality of prospective graduates. Health through the National Competency Test System, and (3) increasing the ability to manage medical education through equal distribution of facilities at several medical faculties as a pilot project.

On February 3rd, 2014, the first component of the HPEQ program was implemented. This component established an association called the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (IAAHEH / LAM-PTKes). The association was formed through an agreement among 14 professional organizations and educational institutions in Indonesia's health sector, based on the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regulations. The main role of LAM-PTKes is to assess the quality of higher education in the health sector. It started its full operation on March 1, 2015.

IAAHEH is an independent accreditation institution that initially focused on the importance of quality education in the health sector on a national scale but has had a vision for international accreditation with the hope that it will impact the quality of health study programs in Indonesia. Therefore, IAAHEH's work orientation has been to international quality levels since the first period. Several recognitions from international institutions have been obtained, including from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), Asia Pacific Quality Assurance Register (APQR), ASEANQuality Assurance Framework (AQAF) as well as having membership in the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), and (International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).

Currently, IAAHEH is highly motivated to develop and strive to become a recognized international accreditation institution. However, during the journey to achieve its vision, several changes in government policy have occurred which have more or less influenced the process of achieving this vision. IAAHEH always perceives these changes as challenges and opportunities that must be fought for.

On February 3, 2024, IAAHEH is 10 years old, following a journey that is not always easy. To celebrate a 10-year journey full of hard work and dedication, IAAHEH held the celebration "10th Anniversary of IAAHEH" in the form of a seminar with the theme "Self-Reflection to Look at the Road Ahead", at the Mercure Jakarta Simatupang hotel. The purpose of this celebration is to reflect on the various experiences that have been faced and the activities that have been carried out since the beginning of operations until now to turn challenges into opportunities in the future that awaits. At this event, the Institutional Director, Dr. Lukman, S.T., M. Hum. and the Director General of Health Care, Ministry of Health, Drg. Arianti Anaya, MKM as seminar resource person.

The performance of IAAHEH's 10-year journey is proof of the Institute's consistent contribution to maintaining the quality of Health Education in Indonesia so that it remains maintained and continues to progress. The contribution of IAAHEH fosters confidence to continue to advance the quality of education not only in Indonesia but also internationally.
